The Suehiro Japanese Whetstone - Shiramine #6000 Grit (Shiramine6000) is a finishing stone designed for most blades. It is known for leaving a beautiful mirrored edge on the knife bevel, enhancing the sharpness of the blade.

Suehiro's size 1 model standard whetstone can be used with a wide variety of knives and cutting tools. The whetstone comes with a storage case that can also be used as a convenient whetstone stand.

The Shiramine Waterstone by Suehiro Niigata Japan is renowned for its fast cutting surface, consistency, and high quality. It is considered one of the most popular #6000 grit stones on the market.

These stones require soaking for a few minutes before use but are not excessively thirsty. An occasional splash of water during use helps keep the stone working smoothly. It is important not to store the stones in water to prevent degradation.

The Shiramine stone is packaged with a small Nagura stone, which is used for unclogging the stone if particle material becomes embedded during the sharpening process.

The Suehiro Shiramine series of stones may develop a dish after frequent usage. To maintain the stones and keep their surface flat for a long life, we recommend using a lapping plate. Suitable options for this process include the Jende Industries Glass Lapping Plate, Shapton Diamond Glass Lapping Plate, or the Shapton NAORU cast iron lapping system.

We recommend soaking the Shiramine stone for only 2-3 minutes for initial sharpening. After the stone has been soaked, it can be splashed with water to keep the surface wet during use.

The Nagura stone included with the Shiramine stone helps in developing a slurry for finer cutting. Please note that the Nagura stone is not meant for flattening the whetstone, which is a common misconception.

Once you have finished sharpening, clean the stone and allow it to air dry naturally in a shaded position. Rapid drying can cause cracking, and leaving the stone in water can lead to degradation.
